Founded by Gregory Shimizu and Twilla MacLeod, Booming Tree - Canada's Taiko Duo - is a professional contemporary drum duo that performs Taiko, the Art of Japanese Drumming. Booming Tree's high energy performances are steeped with stamina and endurance. We play to celebrate the strength and power of the human form.
We live, rehearse and teach in our studio space, our dojo, at Artshab in Edmonton. The drums we play are mostly all hand-made, and come from Japan, as well as from makers in the United States. We also build our own equipment, including our new 4 foot wide drum.
Booming Tree has been honoured to serve as instructors at the 2011 North American Taiko Conference. We have also travelled to Japan to study with master teachers, with the support of the Edmonton Arts Council.
As Canada's Taiko Duo, Booming Tree is always looking for ways to share the joy of taiko with as many people as possible through performances, workshops, collaborations and innovations. We also have a Rock Taiko project called PULSE.
